Monique Mynlieff

Creative, Precise, Understanding

Red Monkey Studio brings together many of the things I love: people, movement and a beautiful, energized environment. In 2004, I opened Red Monkey Studio with the goal of giving clients the best in movement education and putting together a creative, supportive teaching environment for a fabulous group of instructors.

I have been teaching Pilates and GYROTONIC® since 1999, while creating and maintaining a positive place for people to move! Before moving to Tucson in 1997, I received a MA in Fine Arts in Seattle, Washington.

caring, focused, trusted

My favorite things about Red Monkey Studio are friendship, fun, and of course, fitness. I was studying at the U of A when I first found Red Monkey, and it was not long before I fell in love with the supportive instructors and fellow Pilates-ites. When grad school came around, I was experiencing high stress and back pain from hunching over my laptop for 6-10 hours at a time. Pilates helped me leave my studies at the door and focus on myself and my health for one hour a day; it was a mind cleanse. I finally found something to combat the stress that I could not escape elsewhere — on the Pilates reformer.

energetic, caring, precise

I bring vitality to every class or private session, incorporating varieties of movement while maintaining a positive and fun practice. I am actively and continually learning new modalities to keep progressive while always honoring the practice. My goal is to help each individual learn how to help themselves and their bodies through movement.

My involvement with Pilates stems from injuries sustained in an auto accident and a need to strengthen my body post-accident. Because of the results and overall benefits gained through Pilates practice, I began my Pilates certification through the Rom Fletcher Program of Study in 2003. I have been teaching Pilates and have been a member of the PMA ever since. My continuing interest in education led me to become a Level I Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis teacher. I have also added a TRX Certification to my growing list of teaching methods.

Playful, Creative, Caring

I like to keep my TRX and Pilates classes fun, fresh and challenging  — think upbeat full body workouts that make you sweat good vibes. I am continually taking my classes up a notch to kick-up the challenge and maximize results.

My relationship, love and commitment for Pilates began after suffering from intense low back pain. I was working a physically demanding job as an adult care home owner and could not escape pain. After practicing Pilates regularly 3 times a week, my back pain was gone!  I’ve been in the healthcare industry since 2005 and continue to study and keep up with the latest fitness trends and practice to keep my workouts innovative and addictive.

Playful, Therapeutic, Intuitive

I try to address the individual needs of each client even in a large group class.  My focus always remains on making the class fun, enjoyable, and somewhat therapeutic in nature.   It is my desire to also bring my dance background to classes and to increase a student’s love of movement.

I am a seasoned teacher and professional dancer with a total of 38 years of teaching experience. I am certified in Therapeutic Pilates and am a Myoskeletal Alignment Therapist.  Therapeutic Pilates utilizes equipment, breathing techniques and exercises to realign the posture, correct imbalances in the pelvis and shoulder girdle and to strengthen the core.  Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques (MAT) utilize a potent blend of deep tissue, muscle energy and joint stretching techniques.  Both techniques provide a powerfully effective modality for the non-invasive management of all kinds of client pain.  These techniques have become a favored treatment among manual therapists, such as massage and bodywork practitioners, athletic trainers, orthopedic and functional movement experts, structural integration therapists, and many more.

Attentive, Encouraging, Dynamic

My yoga classes focus on the needs of the students and each sequence is built organically to accommodate issues and inquiries as they arise. Despite the hard work of the class to try to maintain a measure of lightness and humor to balance the depth of self-inquiry and exploration we strive for on our mats.

I’ve been teaching for over 8 years and believe proper alignment is paramount to a strong, healthy body. My classes support a growth in self-awareness and through awareness, a sense of well-being and fitness.

Energetic, Friendly, Unpredictable

My classes and sessions embrace classical Pilates techniques and form, in addition to new contemporary exercises. Keeping workouts inventive and creative is important and my goal is make students leave a session or class feeling like they have been challenged by the unfamiliar.

I have been teaching various forms of fitness for over 10 years and Pilates since 2014, both within high end resorts and small private studios. I often work with exercises that challenge a client’s imbalances — my philosophy is that by helping a client move more efficiently, and connecting movement to technical detail, they are better able and aided in improving their overall fitness.

Just like every day is so different, every class of mine is different. I always encourage and show modifications, so that everyone can feel comfortable, benefit from the exercises and have a great workout. I like to keep students on their toes — my goal is to have students leave my class feeling strong, mentally and physically.

I’ve been teaching fitness for over 16 years and am lucky to have spent the last few years teaching at Red Monkey. The way I see it, variety spices up workouts and life!

Benjamin Thomas

Intuitive, Precise, Thorough

I bring my own authenticity to each class. I believe in a daily practice that addresses the mind, body, energy, meditation, and philosophical connections between these elements. My own practice informs me of the challenges a student also faces. All levels are welcomed in my classes. I ask for a student’s full attention and desire to be the best they can be and in return I try to bring a superior level of teaching to each student.

I enjoy addressing and training a completely authentic Iyengar style yoga class that has both elements i.e. fitness and technical in each session.

My experience spans over 41 years. I have traveled extensively around the world. My desire is to share my knowledge of living an intentional life with my students.  I want to help students meld their inner and outer strength that creates unity between the mind, body and soul. As a result of my practice and teaching style, I have developed a loving and mindful community of yogis that are motivated and eager to improve themselves. Wit, wisdom and compassion help me convey my deep knowledge of the inner structure of yoga so that students can expand their awareness.

Sincere, Enthusiastic, Fun

I am a team player with a very motivating and positive attitude — my teaching style is encouraging while still challenging participants to strive for more. I always hope and actively aim for people to enjoy themselves during their workouts because fitness should be fun. The positive energy created within my classes is something special that we can all feed off of. I love seeing someone achieve new successes each time we meet and taking new challenges as we go.

I have been teaching for over 8 years in a variety of settings including small studios and community fitness facilities. Group training is by far my favorite form of instruction! In addition to teaching, I’m also a nutritionist.  Eating healthy and exercising regularly is possible, even with a busy schedule and I am here to help. It is all about finding manageable changes that will work for you.

Encouraging, Positive, Kind

I've been inspiring students in fitness for over 25 years. When I attended my first Pilates class I was immediately hooked! The desire to share this transformative practice has taken me through a few certifications and several years of training. No matter the fitness level, with determination and proper instruction anyone can improve. I believe moving mindfully with the breath enables our body to work smart and efficiently. This empowers our confidence to enjoy active lives for years to come.

When I'm not teaching I'm exploring different ways to move and inspire others. Nature is my happy place and hiking with my husband is how I enjoy it. I love to travel, rock out and snuggle with my dogs.
